All over the countries that made up the ancient Celtic empire can be found inscribed stones arranged in mystical patterns. These stones were believed to have magickal powers and were worshipped as such. Due to the fact that the Celts were known for their stone worshipping, it is thought that the Runes, a divination tool of inscribed stones, may have been developed or improved into the form we use today by them.
Stones were also used at the holy place or burial site of the dead. Some believe this is the beginnings of our use of tombstones. The most famous and easily recognized holy area of stone worship is Stonehenge, located in England.
