Numerology Exhibit Card1939. 5 3/8" X 3 3/8" Stiff Cardstock When people in the early 1900's wanted something to do, they went to bars, movie theaters, parks, boardwalks and arcades (often called penny arcades). ESCO (Exhibit Supply Company - Chicago, IL) manufactured amusement machines for those places - fortune telling machines, prize machines, scales, etc. They also manufactured a card dispensing machine. The cards that these machines dispensed for a penny or two depicted sports personalities, movie and television stars, airplanes, jokes, fortune telling, numerology, astrology and so many other diverse subjects that we may never know the exact amount of different cards they produced. You have to remember this was before television and radio and an afternoon at the penny arcade with maybe some ice cream or lemonade was inexpensive entertainment - and you had some exhibit cards of your favorite personality or your horoscope to take home with you. |
