A wild and dangerous boy seemed to be at the center of it all and events heralded by the mysterious apperances of a white cat that only Ellen could see.

Vintage Postcard (Fotocard) of Glinda, The Good Witch of the North.
In the 1939 film version of the Wizard of Oz, Glinda is played in the film by Billie Burke.
L. Frank Baum, the author of Wizard of Oz,  makes clear that he did not view witches as inherently wicked or in league with the Devil,
so this change was probably meant to signal that Glinda's knowledge and command of magic surpassed that of a witch.
In the books, Glinda is depicted as a beautiful young woman with long, rich red hair and blue eyes, wearing a pure white dress.
